Martijn Padding

Martijn Padding's music is performed by prominent orchestras,  ensembles and soloists at venues at home and abroad. He recently wrote a work on the occasion of conductor Mariss Jansons' farewell concert with the Concertgebouw Orchestra, and the National Opera commissioned him for the opera Laika. In 2011, he received an Edison for the CD 'Three Concerti, ' acclaimed for its original and fresh sound.

Averse to pomposity, he searches in his music for links between classical art and everyday life. His compositions are always multicolored and combine playful lightness with clear formal aspects. Looking for accessibility without taking an easy option, he explores craftiness instead of grand dramatic gestures. Martijn Padding is senior lecturer at the internationally renowned composition department of the Royal Conservatory of The Hague.
