Eric Verbugt

Eric Verbugt (1966) studied composition at the Maastricht Conservatory with Henri Delnooz and Robert HP Platz following his  guitar studies. Center Acanthes gave him a scholarship to follow masterclasses with Luigi Nono and Elliott Carter in Avignon. Verbugt received commissions from the Fonds Scheppende Toonkunst, the Province of Limburg, Lantaren/Venster Theatre and the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts.

For his composition “Bilder aus dem Novecento” he received an honorable mention at the International Gaudeamus Week. In 2000, he was granted a scholarship for the Internationales Künstlerhaus Villa Concordia in Bamberg. In 1992 and 2002 his works were performed at the Darmstädter Ferienkurse.

Since 1996, Verbugt has been working on his “pijnberichten,” a large scale project combining prose (a novel) and music. In 2004 he gave a lecture (Pijnberichten und der Weg dorthin; komponieren mit Romanen) on this work in Darmstadt .

Eric Verbugt's compositions have been performed by the Dutch Chamber Choir, Ruysdael Quartet, Insomnio, Asko|Schönberg Ensemble, Nieuw Ensemble, ohton ensemble, Radio Chamber Philharmonic, Cappella Amsterdam, Nieuw Amsterdams Peil, Slagwerkgroep Den Haag and Ensemble 88. His composition  …, ci tace, commissioned by the ZaterdagMatinee, was performed in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw with soloists Ernest Rombout and Laura Aikin.
